Christmas Cakepops!

My boyfriend helped me decorate lol

So this Christmas I decided I wanted to make Cakepops.. atleast attempt to try. If you don't know what a cakepop is, its pretty much a cake in a shape of a ball. Its then covered in chocolate then decorated however you want.  Alright so first off I want to let you guys know I've never baked in my life... or cooked. Opps!

I decided to make a batch of chocolate and a batch of vanilla. Im not going to get into full details on how to make it, if you do want to know leave me a comment. I found that it was pretty easy to make, except it was very time consuming. I broke it up into 3 days, or else it would've taken me the whole entire day. The most difficult part I would say was dipping the chocolate. After the long process of making them.. I want to let you know they turned out delicious! Everyone that got to try them loved them. Hopefully next time I make them the decorating part turns out better.

ExfoliKate by Kate Sommerville

Let me start by saying this stuff is amazing. My holy grail exfoliator.  I purchased this from Sephora. Click Here. I got the small bottle from the beauty bar that they have when your going to go pay. They always get me there. They have awesome travel sizes that are perfect for trying out products before you purchase the full size. The small bottle cost $25 and contains 0.5 oz. The big bottle is $102 and has 2.0 oz. Yes, it is on the pricier side, so I will look out for a drugstore product I find to be most comparable.

What is it?
Kate Sommerville is a skin expert. Her products leave your skin feeling like you just got a facial from the spa. The specific product I will be reviewing is ExfoliKate. Its a dual action exfoliate. It mixes fruit enzymes and micro beads to deeply cleanse your pores. It polishes the skin for  smooth complexion and also gets rid of dead skin and blackheads. After one time use I noticed a huge difference on my skin, especially around my nose. This product should only be used 1-2 times a week. To apply wet your face and massage in a circular motion. I think it smells quite nice. The color of the formula is a deep green.

Would I repurchase?
Yes, yes, yes!

Model In A Bottle

So I bought this online from FTB Beauty Click Here. Its a Canadian online retailer that carries a lot of the american beauty products that we cant get here in Canada. So if your Canadian this website is awesome! I believe I paid $20 for the bottle. You can also purchase this directly from their website Click Here. I had heard so many Youtubers rant and rave about this product so I obviously had to get it.

My thoughts..
So this is a makeup setting spray used after you've applied all your makeup. The product works great and my makeup stays intact all day. It gives my skins a flawless finish and smells like perfume. So if you don't like fragrance, this is not the product for you. I personally love the smell. Downside is that this is an alcohol based product so if you have dry skin, I don't recommend it because alcohol based products usually make the skin more dry. Another downside is that it sprays very large droplets. I find that if your not as far as possible from your face, its like being sprayed in the face with a water gun.

Would I repurchase?
I know they recently changed their packaging, unfortunately they didn't fix the spray well enough. For this reason I probably would not repurchase. Hopefully they can work on the packaging again because I find the formula works great.

Holiday Nails

'Tis the season to sparkle!
So yesterday I decided to get my nails done. No, I did not do them myself. I can’t do my own nails if my life depended on it. The times I've tried it’s just turned into a horrible mess. I did shellac, I love it! It’s made my nails so much stronger and I've actually been able to grow my own nails! I did red and gold for obvious reasons. I can’t remember the exact names, sorry! With Christmas and New Years just around the corner why not do sparkle and glitter. It makes things much more festive.

OOTD - Winter Jacket

So winter doesn't officially start for another 3 weeks, but in my books I think its winter already. Its so cold here in Vancouver, but I'm then again I'm always cold. This is my quick jacket - outfit of the day look. I think its cute, warm and and a long jacket like this, makes you look a lot more dressier. One thing its missing is a hood, so I should probably invest in a toque pretty soon.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

The past few weeks I've been using this Hourglass primer. I got the travel size bottle for $21, its 0.33 oz.  I found it was pretty pricey for the bottle being so small. They have a bigger bottle for $60, its 1 oz. which I think is also small.

What is it?
Its a mineral based, water resistant primer with SPF 15. It creates a flawless canvas while minimizing pores and shine. I like that the formula isn't silicone based like most primers. I found that it helped a lot with shine control which is my concern around my T-zone. For application I usually find one pump is enough. I spread it all over my face using my finger tips.

Would I repurchase?
Yes I would, except I would save it for special occasions. Like I said before its a bit expensive for the amount that you get. For everyday my current fave would be my Laura Mercier primer. For days I want to feel more glam I would choose this. If there's something I really like but its on the pricier side, I usually will alternate between a less expensive product. I do this with foundations too. This primer can be purchase at Sephora. Click Here

Dove Dry Shampoo

If you don't already know, washing your hair everyday is not very good for your hair. It dries out your hair, so unless its dirty there's no need to wash it. I'm speaking on behalf of myself. Everyone has different hair types, so what might work for me might not work for someone else. The thicker, curlier, more processed hair you have, the longer it can go between washes. My hair is pretty thick and has been chemically processed. I wash mine every other day to 2 days. You can go more or less, just use your judgement.

So.. what do you do when you have just gone to the gym or notice your hair is starting to look oily? Well dry shampoo is great for in between washes. It absorbs oils, helps the hair stay fresh, gives voluminous hair and also gives a freshly washed scent. I love to keep this in my purse. I use to work in the restaurant industry, and the worst was getting off work and having your hair smell like food! Well if you have that problem here's your answer.

The dry shampoo that I'm currently using is Dove Refresh+Care. It comes in an aerosol bottle. I got it from the drug store (Shoppers Drug Mart) and paid about $3 for it. There are many other higher end products you can purchase but in my opinion this works great, plus I rather spend more on shampoo and conditioner. Dry shampoo is for in between washes it should not replace shampoo. The fragrance of this product is great, I think most people would like it. For application shake the bottle well and hold about 8-10 inches away from your hair. Spray directly onto your oily roots.  Make sure your not too close or else your hair might look white. This is also great if you want to add a bit of volume at your roots.

Sigma Flat Kabuki Brush F80

So I ordered this brush online Click here. It was $21 which is reasonable for a good quality brush. Other brand brushes usually range from $25-50 for 1 brush! I had been looking for a kabuki brush for a while. I usually buy most of my brushes from MAC, but they did not carry one like this. I decided to order from Sigma because I have heard other Youtubers and Bloggers rave about this.

The quality of this brush is AMAZING! The bristles are very soft and they feel great against your skin. The appearance is very sleek. I'm actually in love with this brush. I now want to order the rest of their collection. The hair is synthetic, so It doesn't absorb product like other sponges and  real hair brushes do. I feel bad saying this because the beauty blender is amazing but this is now my go to brush for foundation. Don't get me wrong I still use my beauty blender for concealer under my eyes.

What is this brush for? I use this brush to apply foundation. It picks up the product really easily and doesn't absorb into the brush. All the product goes on to your skin, so your not wasting it. Once its on the brush, I spread and buff into my skin in a circular motion. It doesn't leave any blotchy patches or streaks. The finish is smooth and flawless. Before this brush I actually hated brushes for foundation. You can also use this brush to apply powders and creams as well.

Urban Decay Makeup Setting Spray

So I recently got the Makeup Setting Spray by Urban Decay. I got it in All Nighter, I think there's a few different ones. I decided to get the travel size to see if I liked it first. Well I do, so I soon as it runs out I'll have to go back for the big bottle. I got mine at Sephora. To purchase Click Here. Yes I do recommend this, another one that i tried which I absolutely loved as well was Ben Nye- Final Seal. Only downside to that was the smell was a bit weird. Kind of smelled like listerine.

So what does this product do? It keeps your makeup looking like you just applied it for up to 16 hours. I notice that after I apply it, it makes my makeup look smooth,  flawless and matte. This spray also features temperature control. It controls the temperature of your makeup for it to last in hot, cold, humid or windy conditions.

When to apply? I apply this after I'm done done my makeup application. I hold the bottle about 10" from my face and spray all over. It comes out like mist. Then dries super quick.

My Must Have Hair Tools

These are my hair tools I use on a regular basis. I have other tools I use for other specific hair styles, but I would say these 3 get the general job done.

Paddle Brush
The one I have is by Moroccan Oil. I purchased it at the beauty supply store - Modern. I think I paid around $10. To shop at this store you need to have a makeup or hairdressing license. If you don't have one they also sell these products at hair salons. Only thing is it will probably be a bit pricier. The paddle brush is a flat shape brush. Now let me tell you about its features.

  • Flat shape is perfect for creating straight, smooth styles.
  • Ions in bristles repel water causing them to evaporate quickly, enhancing drying time.
  • Ceramic retains heat better, enhancing drying time.
  • Ceramic loses and gains heat less rapidly than metal so the temperature of the brush is more constant.
  • Strong and durable last 2 times longer than average brush.
Wide Tooth Comb
The one I'm using is by Cricket, I bought it at Cosmoprof Beauty supply for about $3. The price is great price and I love how it works. I use this comb after I get out of the shower and my hair is still wet. It easily detangles without causing split ends, breakage or damage.

Teasing Brush
The teasing brush I have is by Dannyco. I also bought this from Cosmoprof beauty supply for about $5. I use this to tease the top of my hair so it doesn't look flat. This brush is made out of wood and has boar bristles. Boar bristles leave the hair smooth and shiny. Excellent for creating up-dos. It has a Slim design with a pointed sectioning tail.

Fall Sweaters

Out of all the seasons, Fall fashion is definitely my favourite! You can layer up, wear big scarfs and of course big comfy sweaters. These two looks are pretty simple yet look very well put together. They are also super affordable. The first sweater is a a long aztec wool sweater. I wore it with a plain cami underneath and leggings. In the second look I added a belt to the sweater to dress it up a bit. That sweater has a black and white pattern and this fall black and white is really in! Hope you all enjoy this post :)
