Lavanila - The Healthy Deodorant Review

Lavanila Laboratories The Healthy Deodorant is described as an award-winning, aluminum-free deodorant that is 100% natural, safe, and effective

I've been using this for almost 3 weeks now. The reason I got it was because I ran out of the one I was previously using. I had always just bought secret or dove.. anything really from the drug store. I started doing some research because I have been hearing a lot about Lavanila. While doing my research I actually found out about all the bad things deodorants and antiperspirants contained. Aluminum is one of the main ingredients found in deodorants and antiperspirants. It has actually been linked to cause breast cancer and Alzheimers disease.

What I think
I'm absolutely loving this deodorant! It smells like perfume. I just want to apply it all day long.  I got mine in scent Fresh Vanilla Lemon. I believe it comes in 4 different scents. Lavanila actually has perfumes too so I actually might pick one up next time. It has a rounded top with a twist off cap. When you first apply it feels a bit cool, wet and looks a bit white. After a few seconds the whiteness disappears and no longer feels wet. It feels lightweight and glides on easily. I had nothing transfer on to my clothes. I know a lot of drugstore ones I've tried do that.  After using it all day I found I was odor free and I had no problems throughout the day. This is my first natural deodorant I've tried but its definitely one I would recommend and repurchase. I purchased mine at Sephora for $17. They also carry a travel size for $13 if you want to give that one a try first. I did read other peoples reviews and different people had different opinions on it. Products work differently on different skin types etc. so what works on me might not work on you and vice versa. I personally loved this product so I give it a thumbs up. Have you tried it? If so what are your thoughts?

Thanks for reading xoxo

Denise Takes Brasil

Sorry it took me forever to get this post up. I had to filter through a million pictures and my computer is so slow!! Ok so I want to start off by saying that this year I was fortunate enough to travel to Brazil for the FIFA World Cup. I flew into Rio de Janeiro and met up with my friend from Australia. I think traveling is so important, it makes you a well rounded person, it teaches you so many things about other cultures, languages etc.
I will now take you through my journey.

This is the view from the top of Santa Marta Favela.

This was one of my most memorable experiences while being in Rio. To see how these people live in these conditions is incredible, they are all so happy about life and don't stress about the things we do back home. If you've heard anything about Favelas I'm sure its something along the lines like "It's so dangerous" "You're going to get shot" "Have you seen City of god!?" etc. etc. Well let me tell you, I never felt unsafe being there and the people I met that did live there were all so nice and humble. Yes, the slums of brazil are notorious for crime, but I think its definitely changed in the past decade. 20% of Rios population live in favelas and there's over 750 favelas in Rio. This one in particular has a population of 8000 people. Santa Marta is one of the most famous Favelas. The movie Fast Five was filmed there as well as Michael Jacksons music video "They don't care about us". If you ever get a chance to visit rio I think this is a must do.

Rented Bikes and rode from Copacabana beach to Ipanema beach. While we were riding our bikes we actually saw the Netherlands Soccer team leaving their hotel and getting into their bus. It was pretty cool.

Christ the Redeemer - This had been on my bucket list since forever! My dream finally came true. It felt so surreal to be there and see Christ the Redeemer over looking all of Rio de Janeiro. This is one of the 7 wonders of the world.

Since I was in rio during the World Cup there were millions of people there! so that kinda ruined my selfie.

Night view from Sugar Loaf Mountain. This photo doesn't do it justice.

Having breakfast with amazing new friends from around the world =)

Is this for real right now?? at a WORLD CUP match!

Quarter Finals: France vs. Germany. This was actually my first soccer game ever! I guess nothing will ever compare after this.

Watching Brasil win their last match in Copacabana. The streets were packed, the atmosphere was amazing! I would do anything to go back to this moment. Soccer isn't just soccer in Brasil. Its everything!!! I experienced something so amazing and words could never express it.  PS Im wearing my Neymar Jr jersey =)

This right here is Rio de Janeiro for you.

Just shopping.. Market in Ipanema.

Iguazu Falls/Foz do Iguazu- It flooded a few weeks before I went to Brasil thats why the water looks brown. We actually took a 2 hour flight to get here from Rio. Its one of the 7 wonders of the world!

This right here is the 3 Frontiers. In this picture you are seeing 3 countries in one picture. Closest to us (the side i was on) is Brasil, the top left is Argentina and the top right is Paraguay.

Lapa Arc

Escadaria Selaron - the famous steps, you might remember them from the music video "Beautiful" by Snoop Dogg & Pharell.

Hang Gliding - Another thing to check off the bucket list.

Pedro de Gavea Hike: I legit climbed a mountain. This was one of the craziest experiences ever. I would probably compare it to an episode of Survivor. I had cuts, bruises and was covered in mud LOL. Lots of people were too scared to finish the hike once we reached about 3/4 of the way. But if you know me and how much of an adrenaline junkie I am I knew I had to finish it. This was such an accomplishment! I have to thank my new friend Jordan for helping me or else I would probably would have been stuck at the top of the mountain.

Walking on the beach before heading to the FIFA Fan Fest for the finals. Repping Argentina!

FIFA Fan Fest Final: Argentina vs. Germany. OMGGGGG  this was absolutely amazing. Even tho Argentina lost it was still a party. As you can see in the picture. The ratio from argentineans to germans was like 1/10. There was over 300,000 people on the beach watching this! the stadium holds 75,000 so just imagine. After Argentina qualified for the finals about 100,000 people crossed the border that night! I met so many people from argentina that trekked about 17 hours driving just to be there for this.

Ihla Grande

Sao Paulo - Concrete Jungle

Sao Paulo - This street is famous for their graffiti.

I hope you enjoyed all these pictures. I know there was a lot.
We all know how much brazilians love their soccer. So to experience the World Cup in their country was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am so thankful I got to experience it first hand.  Rio is definitely one of my top cities that I've traveled to. I'm so sad to be home now, but I guess that just means I need to start planning my next trip. Where to next? What's your favorite city?

Obrigado Brasil!

IMATS Vancouver 2014

Hey guys, so yesterday I went to IMATS at the Vancouver Convention Center. I've been waiting for this all year! If you don't know what IMATS is, its an international Makeup Artist Trade Show. They have different companies with booths set up. They also have guest speakers, demonstrations, and much more.  Its so crazy that my first post I did was on IMATS last year. So that means its been exactly a year since I started blogging. Time truly does fly by. So here are some pictures from the event as well as the things what I bought there.

Me and my girlfriend standing by the Curlique booth. They had these cute summer blow up beach balls. If you took a picture with them and hashtagged #Mybiglove you had a chance to win a $500 shopping spree at their store.

Ok.. now to what i bought.

Beauty Blenders, Velour Lashes, Nigel Lashes, Makeup Forever HD Foundation & Oribe Texturizing spray.

Ok so I kinda stocked up on lashes LOL. The Nigel lashes were 15 for $20. They are great quality and such an amazing price!! I also went by another booth and got more of the same or similar lashes and those were 4 for $5. So I think I ended up getting about 20 pairs of lashes. Should've probably got more, but I guess this will last me for a while. Here is the link to Nigel Beauty Emporium Click Here

More lashes! These are by Velour Lashes.  These are high quality handmade 100% Mink lashes. They look like eyelash extensions. They are long lasting, keep their shape and form and can be used up to 25 times. Where as synthetic lashes can be used around 5 times.

"Our 100% natural mink hair is free from any chemical processing or dyes. Velour mink is collected from free-range zoos and recycled during the shedding seasons, it's then sterilized to ensure it is completely safe for use."

So the pair I got is called  "Guilty, Lashaholic!" Their lashes range from about $30-50. Which seems expensive for lashes, but since these can be used up to 25 times, it makes them worth it. These specific lashes retail for $40, I paid $25 at their booth at IMATS.  For their website Click Here

Beauty Blender - Reusable sponge. This right here is a MUST HAVE. If you don't have it please go out and it get! This sponge makes your makeup look so flawless and perfect. You can use it wet or dry. I've been using the beauty blender for about 2 years now and I absolutely love it!! I got it from Sephora for $26. At IMATS they were discounted for 1 for $15. I also picked up this other amazing deal that you can see on the left. The Air.port which is a mesh travel pouch which stores and dries your beauty blender.  It also came with 2 beauty blenders AND the Solid beauty blender cleanser. Ok so I paid $32 for ALL of this!  That is a freakin' amazing deal if you ask me. Did I mention that the Solid cleanser is $20 at Sephora!
So this was at the Nigel Emporium booth incase you were wondering.

So the last two products. Oribe - Dry Texturizing Spray. Used for volume and sexy texturized hair. It can also be used as a dry shampoo. It smells AMAZE. Ok so Marianna Hewitt totally sold me on this product.  She recently did a youtube video on her must have hair products. This one was her absolute must have. So that being said I knew I had to buy it lol. Here is a link you her video Click Here also check out her blog La la Mer Click Here - Blog

Makeup Forever HD Foundation - One of my all time favorite foundations. I have repurchased this a few times. Retails for $49 and I got it at IMATS for $33.

Thanks for reading! XOXO

Recent Beauty Purchases

This obsession with makeup is a real addiction! The fact that I work a block away from Sephora and MAC doesn't help. Its so weird.. I cant justify spending $50 on a top, but when I go into Sephora I can spend $50 on a highlighter with no hesitation. Makes no sense lol.
Alright..over the past month and a half these are some of the products I've added to my collection. I'll be doing a few reviews on the products you want to hear about. So leave me a comment if there's something your interested in.

Becca Highlighter - Opal - The holy grail of highlighters. If you watch youtube videos you know this is a bit of a craze right now.
Benefit  Blush - Coralista
Babyskin Primer
F40 & P88 Sigma Brushes - If you haven't already tried Sigma, go out and get them! The quality is like MAC if not better. They are half the price too which is a major bonus.
Anastasia Beverly Hills - Contour Kit
La Vanila - Healthy Deodorant
NYX HD Consealer - NYX is probably one of my favorite drugstore brands!
See by Chloe Rollerball - Just picked this up today. I'll see how much a like if before I go buy the big bottle.

So these were all my recent purchases. I'd love to hear your recent purchases or must haves, so I can try them! I'll try and have my Brasil post up hopefully by next week! I just have so many pics to go through. anyways.. thanks for reading!

PS. Who's going to IMATS Vancouver this week?? I Cant wait. :)
